César Eduardo Galarza

César Eduardo Galarza (Guayaquil, Ecuador, 1981) is a poet, writer, cultural advisor, academic, radio presenter, and filmmaker. He was a member of the literary workshop of renowned Ecuadorian author Miguel Donoso Pareja from 1999 to 2007. Galarza debuted with Polvo fue su piel (2000), followed by contributions to Mensaje en una botella (2002) and Madera muerta (2008), which earned him recognition at the “Alfonso Carrasco Vintimilla” Ecuadorian Literature Meeting. In addition to his literary career, he has worked as a cultural advisor, and hosted a radio segment on cultural cinema.

Early Life and Education

César Eduardo Galarza was born in Guayaquil in 1981. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Film, specializing in screenwriting and direction, from the Universidad de las Artes. In the early 2000s, Galarza joined the literary workshop of the Central Bank in Guayaquil, which was coordinated by the renowned writer Miguel Donoso Pareja. This experience played a pivotal role in shaping his early literary career.

Literary Career

Galarza’s first publication, Polvo fue su piel (2000), was self-published and marked his entry into the literary world. He later co-authored Mensaje en una botella (2002) and followed up with his solo work Madera muerta (2008), a poetry collection recognized at the “Alfonso Carrasco Vintimilla” Ecuadorian Literature Meeting. His work earned him critical acclaim, including an honorable mention at the 2008 Ileana Espinel poetry contest.

In addition, Galarza was actively involved in the editorial world. From 2009 to 2014, he managed the independent editorial project elConjuro, helping publish notable works like Ondisplay 2.0 by F. Pasaguay, Delirio Temporal by Alejandra San Jiménez, Cristina by Elizabeth Quila, and Teorema del Acaso by Daniel Calero. He also coordinated the 2009 event Encuentro de Almas, honoring literary figures such as Jorge Enrique Adoum and Sonia Manzano.

Other Work and Contributions

Galarza’s contributions extend beyond literature. He has worked as a cultural advisor and educational facilitator for various projects, including the “Pequeñas Bibliotecas del Buen Saber,” which aimed to promote reading in rural areas of Ecuador. He was also involved in the reorganization of cultural archives at the Central Bank of Ecuador.

Galarza’s interest in cinema led to his participation in the LAB2 project at the Universidad de las Artes, where his short film Willy was selected in 2017. He also acted in several short films, such as Lily (2019), showcased at the Nikon Festival, and Cómo hombre (2022), which was featured at the FECEA Festival in Brazil. His involvement in radio included hosting the segment Cine para Oyentes on Prisma Cultural, aired on Radio KCh 90.9 FM.
