Known affectionately as “La Novia de Manta,” Angélica Flores Zambrano was a prominent poet and writer, producing hymns for several schools and organizations in Manabí. Her notable publication, Cartas de María, published by the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana in 2001, is a collection of her poetry and prose, reflecting her deep connection to Ecuadorian culture. Additionally, she was a prolific journalist, contributing to major Ecuadorian newspapers like El Universo, El Telégrafo, and El Diario Manabita.

Community Engagement and Legacy

Flores was actively involved in community service and cultural initiatives, including the founding committee for Manta National High School in 1966. A noted figure in Ecuador’s cultural landscape, she received an honorary doctorate from Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí and various awards from local institutions. Her impact is commemorated with a school named in her honor, Unidad Educativa Especial Angélica Flores Zambrano.

Angélica Flores Zambrano passed away in Manta on April 11, 2013, leaving a lasting legacy in Manta.
