Pablo Guerrero Gutiérrez, born November 1, 1962, in Quito, Ecuador, is a prominent musical historian and researcher. He initially studied music at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música in Ecuador. Later, he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Sciences, specializing in Musical Pedagogy, from the Universidad Técnica de Manabí. Guerrero has been deeply involved in the field of music research since the early 1980s.

Literary Career and Research

Over the past 30 years, Guerrero has dedicated his career to the study of Ecuadorian music, contributing significantly through his extensive research and publications. He has authored more than 20 books on the subject, with notable works including the “Enciclopedia de la música ecuatoriana” in two volumes. His research spans various aspects of Ecuadorian music, from traditional genres like the pasillo to influential Ecuadorian musicians, such as in his book “Carlos Bonilla Chávez: mil años de música” (2010).

Guerrero’s work is utilized by scholars internationally and is a critical resource for understanding the musical heritage of Ecuador. His early professional activities included collaborating with the magazine Opus and cataloging music for the Archivo del Banco Central del Ecuador. He also founded the Corporación Musicológica Ecuatoriana (CONMÚSICA), an organization that promotes the study and dissemination of Ecuadorian music.

Personal Life and Ongoing Projects

Pablo Guerrero continues to contribute to the field of musicology through his role in organizing the Archivo Equinoccial de la Música Ecuatoriana (AEQ), which preserves Ecuador’s musical legacy. He is also involved in the establishment of the Centro Cultural Pumamaqui, located in Pomasqui, near Quito, which focuses on the cultural preservation and promotion of Ecuadorian music.
