Early Life and Education

Sergio Luis Aguilar Cuenca was born in 1990 in Machala, Ecuador. He pursued a career in tourism, obtaining a degree in Tourism Management and Development. His background in cultural management has played a significant role in shaping his career as a producer and cultural promoter.

Literary Career

Sergio Luis Aguilar Cuenca has established himself as a prominent Ecuadorian poet, recognized for his innovative and powerful use of language. His work spans various literary competitions, earning him several accolades. In 2018, he won First Place for Best Poem and Third Place in declamation at the First Artistic and Cultural Festival “Poesía y música Santa Elena.”

His poetic work, characterized by vivid imagery and a profound engagement with nature, human emotions, and existential themes, resonates deeply with readers. Aguilar’s poem “Germen” earned him first place in the III National Poetry Contest David Ledesma (2020), organized by the Medardo Ángel Silva Ecuadorian Cultural Center.

In 2020, Aguilar was a winner in the “Textos de la Peste (Anales del Covid-19)” contest held by the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana Núcleo del Guayas. His poem “¡UN DISTINTO!” reflects his signature style, blending philosophical contemplation with a raw, almost surrealistic treatment of human experience and nature.

In 2021, he continued to gain recognition, winning the First Place in the I Poetry Contest “Cántale al Cusco,” organized by the Club Departamental Cusco, Lima-Peru, and achieving second place in the V International Literary Prize “Letras de Iberoamérica” in the poetry category. Additionally, he was a finalist in the II Josep Carner i Puig-Oriol Poetry Contest (2021) by Casal Catalá Guayaquil.

Aguilar is also featured in various online literary platforms, including CIDAP AMÉRICA, and is a regular contributor to several poetry anthologies, such as “Caminando por los versos del mundo” by the Etelvina Carbo Plaza Literary Society.

Cultural Involvement

Beyond writing, Sergio is an active cultural organizer and advocate. He organized the Festival Tour Poético “Cuna de Culturas Santa Elena 2019,” showcasing the rich poetic and cultural traditions of Ecuador. His contributions to the cultural and literary scenes have earned him numerous honors, including recognition from the Casa de la Cultura Ecuatoriana Núcleo Provincial Santa Elena for his contributions to cultural and artistic development.
